May has been a nice eye-opening month for me. I am completely convinced that my difficulties growing this year have been mostly due to contaminated soil. Starting seeds in general has been a pain in my ass. Plants are stunting. Nothing is growing. If I didn’t already know that I CAN grow things, I would have thought all of this is because I’m a bad gardener. But I guess you can’t truly be a bad gardener if you’re learning from mistakes. Part of the reason why I like (but also dislike) gardening is because it’s not 100% predictable. Everything is subject to fate. Maybe it’s the weather, maybe it’s the soil, or maybe it’s gardener error. But my mind views it all as a puzzle to be solved. So much to learn and I have all of the time. I am so blessed.
My volunteer Wild Boar Farms Blue Berry Tomato plant has been a decent powerhouse. It’s pretty much the only thing that I have really been able to harvest from. None of my tomatoes that I started panned out but this volunteer plant is doing its best to fill in the gaps. My staple meal has been these scrambled egg tacos. I halve and roast the tomatoes with some balsamic vinegar, olive oil, & salt. Then I plop them on my taco with some fresh herbs and goat cheese. It’s basically my current food addiction.
